Website Worth Sharing: Girls4Tech

Even though this site is directed at getting girls into STEM, the lessons would be good for all of your students when you focus on careers in tech and cybersecurity. There are downloadable lessons on this page: https://girls4tech.discoveryed.com/classroom-resources The All Things Digital PPT has teacher directions in the notes section of the PPT and would make a fun introduction to your classes.

The bottom of the page has 5 different activities on various tech topics. This would be fun to do as a jigsaw activity- having small groups complete the activities, and then present about their activity to the rest of the class (maybe in a poster or Google Slideshow) or they could also be great lessons for subs (they are just worksheets so no tech required) or days you aren’t in the lab for some reason. The activities look engaging and cover some interesting topics.

This page covers various careers: https://girls4tech.discoveryed.com/career-profiles while women are featured, this would be good information for all students.

Websites Worth Sharing: STEM Careers

STEM Careers are rewarding and challenging. There is also a big need for qualified applicants for many STEM jobs, and the pay is generally very competitive.  Students might not be aware of the variety of STEM options available to them. By sharing career information using resources like the links below you can open them up to the possibilities.

Website Worth Sharing: EconEssentials

If you teach economics or finance you might want to check out the Econ Essentials resources available on this site: http://www.econessentialsinschool.com/#about .

CME and Discovery Education have paired up to provide Interactive Learning Modules, Videos, and other teaching resources. The students can work through the modules on Chromebooks or computers. This works nicely with their Futures Fundamentals resources that explore more about trading and the marketplace: https://www.futuresfundamentals.org/for-educators/

Website Worth Sharing: Nepris

If you haven’t heard about Nepris, you may want to check it out: https://www.nepris.com/

Nepris connects educators and students to industry experts through web-based chat sessions about careers, topics and concepts students wish to learn more about. The free version gives you access to their video library of past sessions, lesson plans and 1 live Industry Chat and 1 live Session. For the $149 yearly subscription you can have unlimited access and request sessions. Many of the recorded sessions include questions from the students who requested the session. Presenters are volunteers, so some might be better quality than others. One I checked out said “Um” every 15 seconds and appeared to be selling a product. Others look better. Even thought some of the presentations lack “polish”, they are still presenting valuable career and college information for students. In addition to career presentations, there are several on the college application and admission process.
